Black History Month 2023 in Toronto 🇨🇦
As we wrap up another Black History Month, we at Kunda Kids take a moment to reflect on our experiences during this important month of celebration and recognition. As a children's publishing and media company that aims to showcase various elements of African culture in creative, fun, and simple formats for children, Black History Month holds a special place in our hearts. Here are some of the highlights from our Black History Month 2023 experience.
Participation in a STEAM Day at Terry Fox Public School
One of the highlights of our Black History Month was our trip to Toronto, Canada, to participate in a STEAM Day at Terry Fox Public School. We had the opportunity to engage with different classes through book readings and activities highlighting African culture and history. Seeing how engaged and enthusiastic the students were was incredible, and we were grateful for the opportunity to share our stories with them.
Storytime library session at Roberta Bondar Public School
Another memorable experience during Black History Month was our storytime library session at Roberta Bondar Public School. We read our books to a group of students who were eager to learn about African culture and history. Their curiosity and enthusiasm touched us, and seeing them connect with our stories and characters was heartwarming.
Free African Heroes colouring book
To give back during Black History Month, we offered our African Heroes colouring book for free (RRP £4.99). The book is inspired by the African Heroes bio series, which is available to read for free on the Kunda Kids mobile app. It was our way of encouraging children to learn more about African history and to celebrate the accomplishments of African heroes and heroines.
Recognition as one of the top-ten selling children's books at Roveign Heights
Finally, we were thrilled to be recognised as one of the top-ten-selling children's books at Nigeria's leading bookstore Roveign Heights during Black History Month. It was an honour to have our books acknowledged in this way, and we were grateful for the opportunity to share our stories with readers in Nigeria and beyond.
In conclusion, Black History Month 2023 was a special time for Kunda Kids, as we had the opportunity to share our stories and showcase the richness and diversity of African culture with children in Canada and beyond. From our participation in a STEAM Day at Terry Fox Public School, to our storytime library session at Roberta Bondar Public School, to our free distribution of the African Heroes colouring book, and our recognition as one of the top-selling children's books at Roveign Heights, it was a month filled with meaningful experiences and milestones.
We remain committed to creating books and media that inspire and educate children about African culture and history, and we look forward to continuing this important work.
